Dr Marija Lesjak
PhD in Biochemistry
Dr Marija Lesjak is Associate Professor at the University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences, Serbia. She obtained two PhDs. First one at the University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences, Serbia, in 2011 in biochemistry, and second one at the University College London, UK, in 2015 in molecular biology. The scientific work of Dr Lesjak is directed towards an assessment of biological activity of plants in in vivo and in vitro systems, and their potential to be used as valuable row material for pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industry. She received several prestigious awards in Serbia and abroad for her scientific engagement: UCL Overseas Research Scholarship for her studies at the UCL (2011-2014); Willmar Schwabe award for the best Young Researcher in the field of natural products research (2011); Award for the best young researcher at the Faculty of Sciences University of Novi Sad, Serbia (2015); the “Start-up for Science” scholarship awarded by Philip Morris in cooperation with the Center for Development Leadership in Serbia (2016); National Scholarship L ‘Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science (2016); Special Award “Dr Zoran Đinđić” for young scientist and researcher for the overall scientific contribution awarded by University of Novi Sad, Serbia (2018). She is author of numerous scientific publications in renowned international journals.
